Can a naloxone prescription prevent overdose from pain medication?
If you are taking prescription opioid medication for pain relief, talk to your physician about a naloxone prescription. Naloxone, also known as Narcan®, can help prevent risks associated with opiate overdose.

The study followed 1,985 adults receiving long-term opioid therapy for pain. What is the role of naloxone in preventing overdose and treating addiction?
Naloxone is a medication used to block the effects of opioid medication, especially in overdose, meaning that it binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of other opioids, such as such as heroin, morphine, and oxycodone.
